See, smell, taste Zanzibar’s fruit and spices

Spice tour Zanzibar on bike

A Spice tour Zanzibar on bike allow you to not only do an authentic non-touristic Spice tour but also see a bit of the green Spice farm area.

Meet up at Kholle House in the middle of Stone town or your guide pick you up at your Stone Town hotel. Some bike fitting and then you start with a short tour through the mysterious streets of this UNESCO World Heritage town. After 10 min cycling you catch a local bus, with the bikes on the roof, to avoid the crazy traffic out of town. A 20 min bus ride and it is time to off load your bikes. Then some cycling a few km to the farm in the lush farm area. Enjoy the beautiful landscape!

Spice tour with lunch

Abeids Family Farm is an authentic farm where you feel like walking in the forest. Here you find tropical fruits, spices and rare species of plants. Depending on the season we will see and taste vanilla, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, turmeric, lemon grass, cloves, ylang ylang, cumin, garlic, ginger, coriander, pepper, tamarind, chili, oregano and many others. Learn about the properties and origins of each spice, and their use as medicines or in food and drink. Be sure to smell and taste everything on offer!

Before cycling back we enjoy lunch on the farm cooked by the women in the family with raw material from their farm.

Passing through Masingini Forest

You will take another route back passing the dense forest reserve Masingini Forest inhabited by Red Colobus Monkeys, Blue Sykes Monkeys and lots of birds. If lucky you will see them- if not you will have enjoyed a beautiful conservation area.
