We had a fantastic trip over nine days organized by Helen and led by Suliman. We did a clockwise circuit of the island staying in lovely smaller hotels all of... read more which were perfectly chosen by Helen. We were a couple with a 13 year old and a 75 year old grandfather. All reasonably fit and with good bike skills. mostly it is easy riding but there are a few busy parts. The spice tour was a highlight but mostly we enjoyed the beautiful beaches after a morning cycling with some swimming and beach combing. I would definitely recommend a trip organize be Helen.

Overall pleased with our experience. I thought the spice tour would be overrated but it was actually really nice. We god a private tour for just us and could try... read more lots of fruits and spices, got answers to all our questions, and the lunch provided was delicious.
Dala dala ride to the farm was interesting and biking through stone town and the forest was a nice experience. However it could have been a bit better organised. Our tour guide was late, then we had to wait for him to run some errands, collect the bikes, exchange some money and we didnt actually leave until 10AM. We waited half an hour for the dala dala, it didnt arrive so we biked to another bus stop and waited for another one. I understand this part cannot be planned as there is no timetable, but it felt like a bit of a waste of time, and we only arrived to the farm 11.30.
I did not get a proper mountain bike, but a small ladies city bike with basket, it was okay but not optimal for biking in the forest and on bumpy roads with stones everywhere.
A bit pricey and despite the waiting times and suboptimal bike, the overall experience was nice so I would still recommend it.

Bike Zanzibar was a freeing and immersive experience. I was able to explore every corner of Stone Town and its farms. It's also a great workout - 20km of hot... read more sun and locals calling out "jambo" excitedly. And that's only one way. It was also my first experience riding the dala dala, in which you can witness the ways locals help each other out. During the actual spice tour, I learned all about the spices I've used my whole life but never knew how/where it came from. Then I see the same spices/food in my delicious lunch. I would say this was the best tour I've tried in Stone Town and would highly recommend for those who want to see more in one day and who are not afraid to be super sweaty at the end of it. My advice: bring a big jug of water.

Would definitely recommend this company as a better way of seeing the spice farms to the more commercial tours. Our guide was very friendly and spoke fantastic english and ‘Mr... read more Spice’ gave us so much interesting information. The local ride in a dalla dalla was a great experience and the cycle ride home through villages and the forrest (where we saw monkeys) was a great way to see local rural life. We had a really fun day!

Seeing a locale by bike is one of the best ways to get to know it. For the relatively short time we had in Zanzibar, the bike tour of... read more Stone Town and the spice farm was the perfect choice. Cycling through Stone Town was a wonderful way to get an overview of its layout, architecture, markets, and to see the level of energy there was. The second portion, a bus ride north to the spice farm, was not an inconvenience but rather it was enlightening to take public transport and see how it is part of the daily routine for many. The spice farm was worth the visit - even though the true production farms are a distance away, the demonstration farm contained many/most of the spices grown and Mr. Spice gave an informative overview of each tree, bush, and vine that comprises the spice industry. The lunch provided was a nice break and vegetarian-friendly. The real fun was the (mostly downhill) bike ride back where we passed by suburban schools whose day was ending - crowds of schoolchildren walking on the road near us would call out "jambo jambo" when we passed. The tour ended by re-entering the controlled chaos of Stone town (never felt unsafe) and taking a brief tour of the largest market.
The real beauty of this tour was the chance to talk one-on-one with our guide who has lived here all his life and who willingly shared facts and opinions so we could learn about local culture, politics, education, healthcare, and other things. He was wonderful in this regard and also tried to tailor his narrative and explanations to our interests, which we appreciated.
Helen made it quite easy for us to make an advance reservation, with immediate responses and helpful advice. For our next trip we will plan a longer stay so we can do the multi-day ride.
